Emotional Distress by Ron Dune was troupe 900's one act for the 2023 Florida Districts Thepian Festival. The one-act has won a superior from the judges and will advance to states in March 2024. The one act contains a total of 8 characters, 1 human couple- Dick and Jane- and 6 emotional beings that manipulate the couple. The 6 emotions include Hate, Love, Happy, Sad, Fear, and Bravey.
In the script, the emotions are said to be wearing opposite colors on the color wheel and display banner-like shashes that say which emotion they are. I, instead, decided to take a less obvious approach with no shashes and for the colors to not necessarily be opposite but to complement each other. I also made sure each emotion had some accent piece in the color of their opposing emotion like Love has the red ruffle at the bottom of her dress and Bravery having the B logo in orange and green. I mainly wanted the colors of each emotion to show who they were, the reason why each emotion has a little bit of their opposite in their costume is because they cannot live without them. The emotions find that out in the one act and agree eventually agree to live in harmony.
